Which cities are u guys mentioning they aren't satellites city and Siliguri? Distance between Siliguri to Kolkata is around 630 km
This route doesn't qualify for RRTS but a High Speed Train
Talking about rest Bardhaman, Kharagpur there is already local trains which monthly takes maximum of 300 per month but for same RRTS will cost this amount for one trip.
Just see the Map of Delhi NCR all lines are going towards satelite cities like Faridabad, Meerut, Palwal. In between there isn't hardly any railway travel possible. There is an entire urbanized corridor between satelite cities. This RRTS for mostly car users and Bus travel is also costs a lot there. We have villages between them. We don't have that much density of Daily commuters traveling via road. Yes Local trains is ugly, dusty everything but u can't ignore it. Mumbai is richest City in India still people uses local train more than Kolkata. U have to choose public transport looking affordability. RRTS commuters will be car users not Train passengers. What can IR make to travel faster is to run some more Through trains from Bardhaman s Kharagpur s make trains sitting arrangement like RRTS trains, but making a new section isn't seems logical to me.
these trains are a beauty… transport in Delhi was revolutionised after the metro came up, now transport in the whole NCR will be revolutionised after the whole RRTS corridors are built.. sadly Kolkata is nowhere near even in planning, let alone implementation of the plans…
