What accompanies the brilliance of the acting is the amazing music as well. Absolutely stunning. Hans Zimmer does it yet again.

日本人として悲しい映画ですね!しかし、現在の平和な日本は、これを乗り越えてあると言っても良いと思います。歴史を知ってもらえる良い機会です。

The way Katsumoto never overstays the moment in these movies. It's such a unique touch. Whether it's here, or leaving his son, etc etc. When the discussion is concluded, he immediately moves on to the next moment.

If you look closely there are shots where Katsumoto has demon eyes.

Ujio, a great teacher for Nathan Algren to learn the samurai ways of combat for sure but also to make the armor of the samurai was on tight and ready for battle.

Ujio out here making sure Tom Cruise doesn't embarass them.

A great line from Katsumoto "I belong to the warrior in whom the older ways have joined the new" a memorable moment in that film

Dar S 22/06/2022 - 6:56 PM

Ujio yells "Matte!" at Algren, but he says it very rudely. (It's the difference between "pardon me a moment" and "hold the fuck up!") Checking the armor was tied on properly was a nice touch. You can read that as him grudgingly respecting Algren enough to want him properly protected on the battlefield or as him glad he won't embarrass Katsumoto by making a dog's dinner of his armor.

Katsumoto let's Nathan know "You will need this" a great line when he hands Nathan the samurai Katana with the writings of Japanese on it

It’s sad that the old ways always must give way to the new. If people and traditions don’t die, as a species we don’t innovate and can’t expand. This movie is good at remembering the old.

That nod by Algren to Katumoto

It was the moment Katsumoto fully realised he'd been able to teach someone from the west the true meaning and culture of being a Samurai

I love this movie. What a time to have been alive. To practice Bushido. Honor among all else.

Reply

What’s even better about that inscription on the blade, is that Katsumoto commissioned the sword specifically to have a profound poem that, when translated to English, poetically rhymed in Algren’s mother tongue, but was also incredibly fitting and profound (given Katsumoto’s profound knowledge of the English language, even for a man who probably started learning English SUPER later in life for languages to be learned easily.) Scenes like this give me all the warm wholesome fuzzies, cause it shows just how much mutual respect that Algren and Katsumoto have nurtured between themselves.
